The Thrashers moved to Winnipeg in 2011 to become Jets 2.0.

In that time the following captains have won the Stanley Cup:
2011-12: Dustin Brown
2012-13: Jonathan Toews
2013-14: Dustin Brown
2014-15: Jonathan Toews
2015-16: Sidney Crosby
2016-17: Sidney Crosby
2017-18: Alexander Ovechkin
2018-19: Alex Pietrangelo
2019-20: Steven Stamkos
2020-21: Steven Stamkos
2021-22: Gabriel Landeskog
2022-23: Mark Stone

Not sure if anyone is noticing a trend amongst Stanley Cup champion captains. All the guys mentioned were either number 1 centers, top line wingers or number 1 defenseman. Hopefully this is the first year where a fringe third line center in Adam Lowry changes the tide.

It was either going to be Lowry or Morrissey. So not surprising at all. I think Lowry will do just fine as our captain.

Furthermore, I think he’ll only be a short term captain. The next long term captain will eventually be McGroarty or Barlow. Let’s see what happens though.

Well.... the Jets are the little cheaper dealer franchise.... lol

I agree with Kangra tho that Lowry is likely a shorter term captain until one of the young guns like Barlow, Mcgroaty et al get some time under their belt. I do believe he will be a good mentor for those up and coming youngsters and show them how to be a professional on and off the ice.

This way JoMo can also fully concentrate on the D and do his thing while not having to deal with the demands of being captain.

You make a good point but I think Lowry is a good choice for the team at this point in time.

Such a quiet thread......
I guess this is what happens when Rexy doesn't say something controversial ( I chose that word carefully...)

So we enter the season with both Helle and Scheif in tow. That means only one thing going forward. If the Jets near the deadline with a very good record and appear playoff-bound then these two will need to sign at minimum a one-year extension or Chevy might be forced to trade them. Either player will likely be willing to do that if the Jets look like contenders.

The risk here of course for Chevy and the Jets is a major season-ending type injury to either one of them. If that happens then we will lose a very valuable asset and get absolutely nothing. Chevy is rolling the dice here big time, although lots of GMs also find themselves in similar predicaments.

The other item I might mention about last season is that PLD pretty much led the league in drawing penalties. That led to a lot of power plays and while the Jet's PP wasn't gr8 last year , there were a lot of close games and it might have been the difference in making the playoffs. I wonder who might be the guy this year that helps this cause.

PLD also took a lot of needless penalties, so maybe it will balance out ?

They’re already paired together. But they’ve got Heinola with Schmidt.

Reads to me like he’s got a solid shot, whereas the spares are already deemed just that. Wouldn’t surprise me to see both 64 and 77 waived

Brown was the 2RW, in fairness. Jdub played with Kopitar

I think it's also fair to say that most teams have their higher end players as captains, hence, lots of teams have also not won the cup using the same formula.

I am thinking that Heinola and Chisholm stick around and Stanley and Copacabana are gone.

that is far too smart of a move for this team to pull it off, no place for logic and common sense around this team

I could really care less who has a letter on their jersey or debate how little that relays to a teams success, cause it doesnt

im excited to watch and learn more about our new forwards, I'm not excited to watch the same D core perform as we all know they will. I'm annoyed when Bowness says young players will usually play themselves off or on a team, biggest bullpoop saying there is. We have plenty of D who have played themselves off this team for a long time yet, you can bet your house they will be in opening night lineup

Basically right now aren't they just deciding who is going to be the 13th fwd - AJF or Gustafsson, and who is going to be the 7th and 8th d-men - Stanley, Chisholm, Heinola or Capobianco? What a great shocker it would be if a kid like Salomonsson played his way onto the squad! Not holding my breath, but .....

But really, the line-up is pretty well set, isn't it? Injuries will change that and give others their chance. Play well in camp, and opportunity will knock, just a matter of "when".

Supposedly Nate Schmidt showed up in tremendous shape. He must have sensed that there would be some steep competition from some of the younger crop of D and realized this summer that he needed to get super serious about his career going forward. Hard to see who will be in the fourth paring. My guess is the Declan Chisholm will be one of them and Stanley the other. Heinola will be a victim of his waiver status and will be back on the Moose and available for call-ups. I like Capobianco but he might become a waiver victim.

Agree, think Capo gets waived, Heinola to Moose. Can see the Jets keeping two extra D, and one extra F.

Ehlers is out with neck spasms already, lol. The coach is not worried that this is a long term issue….

He will play 50 to 55 games this year….. but the fans love him and he likes Wpg so a long term contract could entice him to stay….. 🤣🤣

I am being very facetious as it is hard to convey sarcastic tone in this forum…….
